MAPS TESTING THIS WEEK:
We will be doing our language arts and math MAPS testing this week, starting first thing in the morning. Please be sure your 7th grader gets to school on time to help this process go smoothly. The MAPs tests are actually a nice way for us to track weaknesses, strengths, and growth in specific skills over the course of the year.
HOMEWORK, COMMUNICATION, AND BALANCE
The vast majority of the class is doing wonderfully with arriving on time, keeping up with homework and staying engaged in all of their classes. I am trying to hold students accountable for making up missed work, but also want to be sure they aren’t sleep-deprived trying to make up work right after an illness. If your child needs an extension on a homework deadline please write a note and sign your initials in their planner under that assignment explaining briefly why they need more time (they can write the brief explanation and you can just sign). I don’t want them staying up late into the night doing homework on an evening when you had a family event or sports practice and there was truly not enough time for them to do homework (or because they’re trying to catch up after being out due to illness, for example). Sleep and balance are important. I do want them to learn accountability, though, for tracking when they need extensions by having you sign a quick note in their planner.
AFTERNOON STRINGS PROGRAM
After school String Enrichment Class begins again this coming Thursday, September 17, and runs through Thursday, October 22. We meet from 1:30 - 2:30 during early dismissal. Drop off and pick up will be in the front lobby by the Kindergarten room. The class is open to students in 3rd grade and up who have previous violin, viola, or mandolin experience. The cost is $70 for the session (checks payable to Ann Schnaidt). Please pick up a sign-up form at the main desk and return it to Ms. Docherty. I look forward to seeing you soon!
