We’ve also been enjoying the first-person accounts that the students have been sharing with each other as they present what they learned about their chosen explorer while speaking in character, as that explorer.
Next week the 7th graders will have MAPs testing on both Tuesday and Wednesday. These tests are much less intense than the PARCC test but they are also more immediately informative and will be more useful this year for demonstrating growth, so please be sure to emphasize the importance of putting in full effort in spite of it being the end of the year. Please send your child with plenty of food and send in gum if they would like it.
Ms. Swigris assigned a few math problems to finish this weekend, and then there shouldn’t be much math homework next week. In general there won’t be much homework due to testing, except to finish the book “The Outsiders” by next Friday. If your 7th grader needs an extension on this deadline please just write a note in their planner. I want them to prioritize rest over reading especially during the testing. (Many of the students are enjoying the book so much that they will be eager to finish anyway.)
Here are a few dates to keep in mind going forward:
Tuesday May 17: 4:00 to 4:30; Cross country informational meeting with Ms. Keyser. Childcare will be provided for younger children. Please check younger siblings in with me on the playground *(or inside if it's raining) before going to the meeting, so I'm clear about who I'm supervising.
Wednesday May 18: Deadline to turn in camping trip permission forms and behavior contract and fees. Please remember to e-mail me if you need a scholarship to help with the fee. (I will happily accept forms and fees ahead of Wednesday. Thanks to those of you who've already turned them in!)
Thursday May 19: Volunteer Appreciation Celebration: Mountain Sage volunteers are invited to attend this faculty hosted Volunteer Appreciation Celebration on May 19 from 2-3pm. Join us for good food, good company, and a celebration of all who contribute to making our school great. There will be childcare available. A huge thank you to all of you who have supported our 7th grade class and the school in so many ways this year.
Required: Registration Week for the 2016-17 School Year, May 23-27, 2016- Visit Mountain Sage during school hours, May 23rd through May 27th, to complete required registration paperwork for your child(ren) for the 2016-17 school year. (Since this is also the week of the camping trip you may want to plan to do this on Monday May 23 after dropping off your 7th grader or Friday May 27 at the latest.)
Monday-Thursday May 23-26: 7th Grade camping trip to the Great Sand Dunes
Another Shakespeare opportunity: June 2nd, 7:30 p.m. Open Stage Theatre is putting on Taming of the Shrew at Columbine Health (near Drake and Shields) outside on the lawn for free! It’s their student/educator night. Seating is picnic style and starts at 7.
Kaleah’s Class report
On Tuesday we started Geometric drawing, and we also had choir and a weird little study hall/ art class at the end of the day. On Wednesday we did gardening and cyber civics. On Thursday we worked on our golden spiral and spent lunch and recess outside then went to recorder practice. On Friday we did this tortilla day in Spanish, and we made tortillas, mashed some avocados, and then we ate food. In games we played the same game we played last Friday, and in handwork we ate potatoes while learning about starch and ironing.
