A couple important pieces of news:
May Camping Trip extended: After meeting with some of the chaperones and camping trip coordinators this week, we’ve decided to lengthen our stay at the Sand Dunes by one night, which will really allow us to have a richer experience on our trip. This means we will be leave Monday May 23 and return Thursday May 26 before the end of the school day. I’ve secured our reservation at the campground for all three nights, so please mark this shift on your calendar. Potential chaperones, I’ve had only positive feedback so far in response to this shift – but if you realize it will not work for you to come given the added day please both send me an e-mail and go in and delete your entry on the sign-up genius at this link.
We likely have one more chaperone than we can actually take (or need to take) on the trip anyway, so I’ll be in touch with all of you who’ve volunteered to sort this out once I’ve got clear information on this. More information will be forthcoming to all chaperones and coordinators (including notes from Thursdays meeting) after I make a couple calls to Cave of the Winds and the park rangers on Monday. Thanks to Liz, Tracy and Toby for attending our initial meeting!
In the midst of a fun-filled week and planning for our camping trip, I completely forgot to talk with the 7th graders this week about Valentines Day. Valentine’s Day falls over the 4-day weekend next weekend and we will be having an all-school assembly on Thursday beforehand, but we won’t have an in-class party. I’m happy to let the students exchange homemade valentines if they’ve brought one for everyone, but this definitely won’t be a requirement. (Our school policy is that we don’t do store-bought cards and candy etc, and that if you do bring homemade valentines you must bring one for everyone in the class.) I’ll talk with them together as a class on Monday about exactly how they’d like to handle Valentine’s Day, given these parameters.
Reminders of Upcoming Dates:
Feb. 12-Feb. 15: February break (teacher work day and no school!)
Feb. 18: 7th grade parent evening, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Bella’s Class Report
On Monday, we each wrote odes to either butter, bacon, popcorn or marshmallows. After we had written our odes we got to experience them in class. In Woodworking we started carving our spinning tops. In Outdoor Education, we talked about animal prints and then went out into the woods and picked our sit spots.
On Tuesday we had a snow day.
On Wednesday we had a poetry and writing teacher from CSU come to our class and learned that she will be coming once a week to help with our creative writing block. In Main lesson we presented or physics machines and demonstrated how they work. In Handwork we started preparations for our puppet play.
On Thursday we started our object writings, and half the class got tricked by Mrs. Addington and the other half of class. In music we practiced our recorder song that we will perform at the Valentine’s Day assembly.
On Friday we turned our classroom into the “Creative Café”, and Mrs. Addington served us either tea or hot chocolate while we wrote. In games we played a new strategy game called “FRESHER!” This week's theme was “Surprise!”
