Since 2013 Mountain Sage Community School has been providing children a tuition-free Waldorf-inspired arts-integrated education unlike any other K-8 experience in the Fort Collins area. As a public charter school we receive little public funding for major expenses such as land and facilities, which are key to the success of our program. Help our children explore the world! Support this year's campaign to purchase a small fleet of passenger vans! This will greatly increase our ability to extend the educational experience beyond the walls of Mountain Sage by making it easier to conduct field trips into our community. Inspiring wonder about the world often means getting out into it, and new transportation will help our students to get out and explore new destinations.
Why does the school need independent transit now? Exploratory learning is at the core of the Mountain Sage mission. As we enter our seventh year of operation we are looking to the future and how we can expand these opportunities for our children. To date, we have made do with what is available through the school district, but that has comes with many compromises. District buses are only available for a limited amount of time during the day (typically 9:30am-1:30pm). With your help, we can expand these learning opportunities and capitalize on the learning opportunities that come with living in such an amazing area.
How will this benefit my child and/or family? This initiative will benefit students in grades 1 through 8. Teachers will have more freedom to coordinate field trips with greater ease. Parents will see additional opportunities presented to classes.
What is the overall fundraising goal? We have a BIG goal, which we can absolutely meet with your help! The Mountain Sage community is working to raise $50,000 to aid in the purchase four 12-passenager vans. We have done our research and believe that if each family can pledge a monthly donation of $10/$25/$50 we can reach this goal.
Is $50,000 enough to purchase four vans? No, it isn't. That's why we have multiple avenues we're exploring, with car dealer donations, corporate and local business sponsors, and grants chief among them. All the money generated from the Mountain Sage Scrip Program and other school-wide fundraisers this year will support Destination Exploration. A $50,000 collective contribution from the parent community will be an essential piece of the puzzle!
Why can’t the school use state-available funds? As a charter school we have additional costs that other school district schools don’t, such as our building lease. On average we spend $350,000 of our annual budget on facilities expenses. Yes, that’s a lot of money! Which is why your support is so critical!
What will happen to the funds if we don’t meet our goal? We are committed to purchasing transportation to support exploratory learning for our children. If we don’t reach our goal this year, we will continue our fundraising efforts until we do.
When will the vans be purchased and available for students? With your help, we hope to have vans purchased in the summer of 2020.
How will the school ensure students will be safe on the vans? Who will be driving the vans? Safety has and will always be our first priority. Research shows that 12-passenger vans provide the safest mode of transportation and do not require a commercial driver’s license. All drivers will be required to pass a comprehensive driving record check and will receive training on van driving safety.
Do I have to make a monthly contribution and can I write check? We welcome all donations! This includes one-time contributions and both checks and cash. To make a one-time contribution on the website, simply click the "Today" option. To make a contribution with check or cash, please stop in the front office and let the receptionist know what the contribution is for. We will be sure to include your donation in the Destination Exploration total pledged.
Is my donation tax-deductible? Yes, as a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, your donation will be tax-deductible. Donations made through our online portal will receive an on-screen acknowledgment. A copy of that letter will also be emailed to you.
Why is the donation tracker on the school's website different than the one on the MS Gives page? The tracker on the school's website shows the anticipated entire amount pledged by monthly donors, as well as one-time donors and other parent contributions through scrip, employer matching, and additional fundraisers. The tracker on the Mountain Sage Gives page (where the Donate Now button leads) takes into account only donations that have been made and processed through that site. This means out of a 12 month donation, only the months that have passed will be reflected.

Caps 4 Cash The charitable giving program through locally owned and operated Morning Fresh Dairy, families can collect the cleaned caps from their milk bottles and bring them to school. Put them in the basket in the school lobby. We get 5 cents for every cap!
